Photoblog Help

Introduction

Welcome to my photoblog. This site contains a number of my photos, with the "highlights" at the top level, and the ability to "drill down" into the albums and find photos by tags. Tags are inclusive or exclusive, so for example if you don't want to see things with my cats in them, you would use a URL like http://www.jafo.ca/photoblog/bytag/-Cats. Most pages have RSS feeds available, so you can follow highlights as they are added, or something more sophisticated (see the Tags section below).

Many of the enhanced functions are only available to my friends. If I know you, please send me an e-mail and don't forget to remind me where I know you from.

Main Page

The main photoblog page, available by clicking on the "photoblog" link in the upper menu on the page, contains a list of the "highlight" images. These images may be associated with other images, in which case under the image you will see a clickable link such as "16 other photos". These additional photos I call "albums" and are only available to my friends. See the section on Friends for more details.

The main page highlights contain the primary flow of my photos. To be honest, if you aren't a friend of mine, you probably won't be interested in the additional photos, they're just more of the same.

Image Details

If you click on one of the images in the indexes (either the main index, or the ones produced by using tags), you will go into the details for that image. This feature is only available to my friends.

This page includes links to other image sizes, information about the available tags, and the ability to modify the photo data such as the caption and tags if you have the "Editor" permission. If you would like to edit image details, please contact me, I'm likely to give you the permissions if you don't already have them.

Editors Note (Tags): The tags section is a multi-select list. This means that you need to Control-Click the items in the list if you want to toggle them. If you just normal click, it will de-select anything else that is selected. The only way around that is to go back a page and then re-click the link to the image you want to edit -- firefox will remember the current form status if you do a reload of the current page.

Editors Note (New Tags): There is currently no way to add a new tag. Please contact me if you would like a new tag added.

Tags

Pretty much all images are tagged, though they may not be tagged completely. Particularly for large groups of people, only some of whom I know or can remember their names. In other cases it may be that I'm only interested in adding particular tags in that image. If you are an editor and you notice an error or omission in the tags, feel free to correct it.

The primary use of tags is to allow building custom feeds of images interesting to particular people. There are two URLs that are of interest for tags use:

To the above URLs you then add the tags, with each tag separated by a "/" (slash). So, for example, if you wanted to find highlight images that contain me but not my cats, you would use:

This says to include me (based on my name) but exclude any images which have LBK or SteveCat in them.

These links have RSS feeds on them, so you can build flexible sets of RSS feeds based on your interest.
